'The Fallen' - Fly Tipping! - 16/04/08

Hi Squadron Leader,

Not so long ago I got my workmate into flying planes. I’ve been flying for a while now but still crash a fair bit. Today, my mate and I went out after work as he had not flown his Spitfire yet, and therefore wanted me to give it a quick test…so I happily obliged.

In my defence, it was not my flying that caused the crash but the wing snapping off in mid air. As you can see the plane came down too earth fairly fast and shattered into dozens of pieces. I am happy to report the pilot survived…thank god!!!

Please can you put the pics up on the fallen page because I feel bad about destroying my mate's plane?

Thanks for your story Dan, an absolute corker. Just a little curious as to why Squadron Leader crash tape has been used on the fuselage and wing even though you stated the Spit had never flown before!

There does also appear to be a
discrepancy between two of the pictures submitted....the wing reduces by 50% between photos.

This case does whiff of Jackanory, but we like the story and the damage speaks for itself. Well done Dan, you are a Winner!
